As a Key Stage 1 teacher, phonics is fundamental throughout every day and I love teaching it. When I first began teaching, I must admit, I found phonics daunting, however now I really enjoy it and seeing the children learn to read and write is so rewarding.
Here is one of the games I have made, using a left over protein powder container…’Phonics Fun!’. Children use this independently in reading time, choose time and of course, phonics lessons.
Aim of the game:
Children can play alone or with a partner. Take it in turns to select a card from the container. Can they identify the sound? You can challenge more able pupils to think of a word that contains this sound or even put it into a sentence. The game also contains challenge cards that require children to try writing activities together. The children love playing the game and choose to do so in their own time!
As we say at school…Phonics is fun!!!
